SocEnv Webinars: Waste Reduction Pt.3

Wednesday, 5 December 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Online

Society for the Environment have launched a new webinar series which will explore the overarching topic of "Waste Reduction - Six Months on From a Plastic Themed World Environment Day".

Split into three webinars, the series will be based on the knowledge and expertise of six Chartered Environmentalists from different sectors and disciplines.

What Next for Plastics Wastes?
Chartered Environmentalist Adam Read will focus on future of plastics wastes, a new consumerism and the opportunity for effective producer responsibility. He will be discussing themes around Government’s new resources and waste strategy, looking at single use plastic taxes, EPR reform, changes in service funding and a drive towards more consistent packaging, more simplistic packaging and a willingness by the public to do more, and pay more.

Adam brings his talk to life with data from polls, public workshops, supply chain workshops etc. – this isn’t theoretical!

Dr Adam Read CEnv - Director of External Affairs @ Suez Recycling & Recovery UK
Adam  is responsible for government engagement, and closer working with CIWM, ESA and other trade bodies in the UK and internationally, including ISWA and FEAD. Much of his time in the last 12 months has been dominated by addressing the Chinese recycling import situation, and in working with DEFRA & BEIS on the upcoming new Resources & Waste Strategy.

Adam has been in the sector for over 20 years as a local authority officer, academic and consultant, the last 15 of which have been in the consultancy space, supporting local authorities on designing, evaluating, procuring and commissioning recycling and residual waste treatment solutions. Adam has worked with MRFs on feedstock controls, technology solutions, and output specifications since 1995, and is now working closely with both the trading teams and the operational teams at Suez, both in the UK and internationally, on improvements that can be made to enable municipal and commercial recyclates to be recovered. He is a Fellow of the CIWM and will become President in October 2020.
