The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and the Royal Borough of Kensington are vibrant places to live and work.  There are many notable regeneration projects including Earls Court, The White City Opportunity Area, the Tideway Tunnel and Crossrail, so you are never too far from new and exciting challenges. Both councils are Air Quality Management Areas and operate six air quality monitoring stations.  

The main focus of this post is to address air quality issues through the planning process and implement the councils’ Air Quality Action Plans. The team also deal with other duties including contaminated land, industrial processes, private water supplies and the enforcement of the ‘polluter pays’ principle ensuring the prevention and remediation of environmental damage.  

An opportunity now exists in the Environmental Quality Team for an experienced and motivated air quality specialist.   

The successful candidate should have relevant professional experience, detailed technical knowledge and a good understanding of environmental legislation and how it affects the work of the council.  Experience with the planning system is highly desirable.  The officers will be qualified at a minimum to a degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g. Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, or equivalent). Excellent verbal and written communication and IT skills are a must and experience of databases, GIS packages and quantitative risk assessment tools is required.
