The Science Council is a membership organisation for professional bodies and learned societies across the disciplines of science. It promotes the advancement and dissemination of knowledge of and education in science, pure and applied, for the public benefit. The Science Council is a charitable body that sets the standards for professional registration for practising scientists and science technicians.

About the role 
The Science Council is looking to recruit an Employer Advisor to join their friendly team to support the technical pathways team in engaging and influencing employers to consider technical career pathways into the sciences. The project, funded by the Gatsby Foundation seeks to embed and align professional registration to apprenticeships, T Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications.

The post-holder will implement strategies and work with employers and professional bodies to encourage and support the growth of apprenticeships and work placements in the sciences, with the aim of facilitating more technical learners to go on to achieve professional registration.. As part of your role you will work with colleagues to deliver the ‘employer champions’ programme and devise initiatives in conjunction with professional bodies to engage more employers with technical education.

About you 
To be successful in the role you will have demonstrable experience of engaging and influencing employers to encourage take up of technical education along with experience of building successful relationships and working collaboratively with external organisations. An understanding of the reform that has been occurring in technical education over recent years including the introduction of apprenticeship standards and the levy, T Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) is essential, as is experience of managing projects and activities, with the ability to anticipate potential issues and develop innovative solutions. It would be advantageous to have experience or knowledge of professional bodies and professional awards.

The Science Council is able to offer flexible working and we are happy to discuss requests for part-time and flexible working arrangements including secondments.

Working Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
Type of contract: 6 month fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension of up to 3 years depending on funding
Reports to: Head of Technician Pathway Development
Location: The Science Council’s office is based at 71 Central Street London, EC1V 8AB. This role will be flexible between the office and home working with some London and UK-travel expected. (Please note during the COVID pandemic all staff are currently working remotely from home).
