Science Council
London
10 June 2015

The Science Council is passionate about the professional practice of science and wants to reach more than 5 million science workers in the current UK workforce and their employers; the message is of the importance to society and to individuals of professionalism and professional registration in science. Professional registration is a peer review process in which the individual’s professional competence is assessed and it is paramount in assuring the quality of the work undertaken by scientists and science technicians. With significant funding from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the Science Council has established a Professional Pathways Project to lead the work to increase the uptake of professional registration in science.

The Professional Registration Executive is key to developing this Project with new marketing and promotional activities, an enhanced user experience and by supporting the professional bodies in the implementation of innovation and good practice. This Executive will also support the design, implementation, decision-making, evaluation and review process for the Project and work closely with colleagues in the Science Council and professional bodies.

The successful individual will understand the role of professional bodies and the ways in which they support professional scientists and technicians.  They will have experience of working in a volunteer-led environment with a multiplicity of stakeholders. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with solid office-based and committee experience (at least two years); be a confident and capable communicator; have strong administrative and database skills; be able quickly to build good relationships with stakeholders; and be comfortable working as part of a small, dedicated team.  You will necessarily appreciate science careers and professions, and be passionate about science.

Interviews are scheduled for Thursday 18th June in central London.
