This short course provides an understanding of the tools and technique required for environmental appraisal of transport activities. It starts with an overview of the NATA (New Approach to Appraisal) and focuses on the tools for environmental assessment which range from simple screening models to advanced models and techniques.
The main focus is on tools for noise, emission, air quality assessment. The course also covers methodology for assessing landscape, townscape and, biodiversity impacts of transport projects. Workshop sessions will give opportunity for the participants to use some of the tools and techniques outlined in WebTAG (Transport Analysis Guidance recommended by the Department for Transport).
The course is based on the internationally recognised research that Margaret, Anil and their team are involved in. Combined with their extensive experience of working with Local Authorities and other partners, the course is thus informed by both the latest research and by experience of practical implementation.
