Role purpose
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability and Innovation, the Sustainability Officer will be responsible for provision of company-wide environmental compliance to IPPC/EASR licenses, ISO standards and reporting of KPI including carbon metrics (e.g. Zero Waste & Net Zero); This will be based on overseeing initiatives, and validating environmental data provided by external agencies and your direct report staff, the drafting of (Board) reports and recommendations that add value for both the company and the customer; whilst ensuring through diligent application to operating conditions, ongoing initiatives, that ensure our impact on the environment, society and economy; is quantified, verified and visible and at the forefront of our decision-making. The principle purpose of the role is ensuring the company retains and advances its environmental compliance underpinning its sustainability credentials by and delivering on our ambitious zero targets, (net zero, zero waste to landfill).
Key accountabilities
- Ensure the Group maintains highest standards of compliance to Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC- EASR), Integrated Management System (IMS) by day-to-day management of licensed requirements & of the (ISO) Energy & Environmental management systems (14001,50001) SBTi CCA/ESOS and other carbon and Producer responsibility reporting obligations;
- Physically Audit & verify the integrity of our operations and that of supply chains to meet internationally accepted ethical and environmental standards;
- Ensure the Group’s sustainability credentials are maintained, and provide data to underpin proactive internal and external campaigns to challenge the status quo in all aspects of sustainability;
- Clearly communicate internally to gather data and inspire the wider business at operational level on the fundamental sustainable development principles, in particular environmental management, and ensure others understand their responsibility for environmental damage and improvement;
- Implementation of environmental objectives, policies and principles across the company through measurement of delivery of projects or initiatives ensuring a consistent and aligned approach to business objectives is achieved;
- Analyze and evaluate environmental results and compliance to support the Head of I&S in developing practical solutions for implementation;
- Evaluate, verify and report data for board report content (Environmental Compliance and Sustainability) that contain relevant and accurate data that is easily understood;
- Proactively anticipate environmental trends through legislative observance and consequences and look for way to overcome any risks to the business and its people;
- Contribute to & draft content of Annual Group ESG Report for shareholders and other stakeholders including provision of environmental data auditable to ISO 14016.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Preferably a graduate in Environmental science or Environmental Management (or similar);
- Extensive experience in a compliance driven role, ideally with direct experience of the IPPC and Carbon reporting regime, liaison with SEPA and other regulatory bodies;
- Chartered status would be an advantage.
