Adam has worked for the IES in various roles since 2006, becoming the organisation's first CEO in 2013. He has held numerous non-executive roles, including chairing the Science Council. He is currently an advisor to the RACE Report.

Ethny is responsible for supporting the IES Communities and building relationships with partners and stakeholders in the sector. Ethny is also a Trustee for Charityworks, sits on the SiLC Board and holds positions on the Steering Groups for the Professional Bodies Climate Action Charter, the Equator Programme and the Media Trust's Communicating Climate Programme.

Joseph Lewis

Head of Policy
Joseph is responsible for delivering policy for the IES and working to promote the use of the environmental sciences in decision-making. He has an MSc in Public Policy from the University of Bristol, where he specialised in environmental policy, as well as a Law Degree from Durham University. Joseph has a particular interest in environmental science communication and ensuring that policy reflects the voices of science, scientists, and the natural world.

Publications Lead
Bea leads the development, production and delivery of key IES publications, including the journal, and acts as the guardian of the IES family of brands. She has an MSc in Climate Change from King's College London and is particularly interested in intertidal ecosystems. She has experience in a range of charities and public-sector organisations, including previous roles in environmental research and children's rights.

Siân is responsible for the Institution's events schedule. She has an MSc in Water and Environmental Management from the University of Bristol and 10 years' experience managing large programmes of training in the ecology sector and research in the water industry.

Communities & Membership Engagement Officer
Amy is responsible for supporting the IES Communities and leading on the implementation of our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan. She has previously worked at a charity supporting university students to engage in socially impactful volunteering, and in an asset-based community development role at a local authority. Amy has a BA in English and an MSc in Global Sustainability Solutions, both from the University of Exeter, and is passionate about the benefits of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Sally manages the Institution’s growing education work through our Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE) and supports members' professional development. She has a BSc in Geography from Loughborough University and an MSc in Environmental and Chemical Science from McNeese State University. Sally is passionate about sustainability and engaging with students to support them through their academic journey and transition into the professional world.

Lucy Rowland supports the development and production of IES publications, including the journal environmental SCIENTIST. Before joining the IES, Lucy worked as a content writer in the environmental jobs sector, and in the School of English at the University of Leeds, where she taught undergraduate students, contributed to a range of nature writing public engagement projects, and completed a PhD in contemporary women's fiction and the climate crisis.

Ellie joined the IES in 2023 and is responsible for supporting the work of the IES’s Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC). Before joining the IES, Ellie led on local government policy and research at a climate change and democratic engagement charity. She has a BA in Politics and Economics from the University of Sheffield.

Lisa is one of the longest-serving IES staff, having joined the team in 2016. She is the go-to person for everything membership related in the IES. Her previous roles include Internal Account/Administration Manager for a software development company and Editorial Assistant for a medical publishing company.

Zaynah joined the IES team in 2025 as part-time admin staff, having previously been a graduate member. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Geoscience at UCL and holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science. Her specialised fields of interest include Earth science, climate science, and polar science.

Benn works part time at the IES to gain a deeper understanding of the industry and to support his studies to achieve a Masters Degree in Environmental Science. Science has always interested him from a young age, and the natural environment has always been a growing passion.
