Dog barking resources
The UK is a nation of dog lovers. Barking is a natural way for dogs to communicate, and it isn’t something we should expect them to stop doing altogether. However, excessive or persistent barking can be very difficult for those living nearby and is one of the most common noise complaints received by many local authorities. It can also be a sign that a dog is distressed, bored, or unwell.
To support both dog owners and neighbours, we have developed a set of practical resources. These are designed to help dog owners take reasonable, welfare-positive steps to reduce excessive barking, while also giving neighbours a constructive and collaborative approach for addressing the issue.
Both resources are available in online and printable formats. Local authorities, housing associations and community groups may find them useful to share with residents as part of promoting positive neighbour relations during Noise Action Week and beyond.
