Climate adaptation in focus: Managing risks on contaminated land sites
This event is free and open to all.
How can land condition professionals effectively manage the risks associated with climate change? Join us for a dedicated discussion bringing together our Land Condition Community and National Contaminated Land Officers Group (NCLOG) members to explore the key risks posed by climate change for contaminated land sites and how guidance can support professionals in navigating these challenges. You will have the opportunity to hear from expert speakers on related topics, including wildfires and coastal erosion impacting historic landfill sites.
This event is part of a series of online events on climate adaptation being held to coincide with the UNFCCC's COP31, taking place in Türkiye. Adapting to climate change is a social imperative and must be done in tandem with effective climate mitigation measures to increase resilience across all aspects of our environmental, social, and economic systems. These events aim to bring together environmental professionals to discuss the importance of climate adaptation and consider how it relates to their areas of work and professional practice. The events have been supported by the Climate Action Community.

About the Land Condition Community
The Land Condition Community connects members to share expertise, shape resources, and drive standards across the sector, with its membership spanning consultancy, industry, local authorities, regulators and academia. Its Early Careers Network supports those starting out with mentoring, learning, and peer connection. Collaboration underpins the work that the IES does on land condition; we bring together different expertise and perspectives to support the delivery of a unified voice on land condition challenges and shared solutions that work across stakeholders.
About NCLOG
The National Contaminated Land Officers Group (NCLOG) is a member-led, specialist interest group and is part of the Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC). NCLOG members are Contaminated Land Officers (CLOs) working in local authorities.
The Community works together to act as the national voice for CLOs in the UK and to promote high-quality and consistent regulation and management of land contamination across the sector. We provide a home for CLOs to share ideas and knowledge, support members through developing guidance and resources and provide peer support to individual CLOs, who may be the sole individuals dealing with land contamination in their Council.
About the Climate Action Community
Our interdisciplinary Climate Action Community (CAC) champions transformative approaches to reshaping unsustainable systems. We recognise that climate change cannot be addressed in isolation but requires solutions that address the interlinked challenges of biodiversity loss and pollution.
The Community holds regular events, discussions, and biannual Community meetings covering adaptation, mitigation and resilience. It also engages with key organisations and initiatives across the sector, including UNFCCC, ISO and the Professional Bodies Climate Action Network.
