Lead the way to a better world

Fellowship is the highest grade of membership of the IES and is for Members who have achieved distinction in the environmental sciences profession. We see our Fellows as active, engaged and leading, bringing their knowledge and skills not just to the sector, but to their peers as well.

Should I consider Fellowship?

Achieving Fellowship offers recognition of your substantial achievements in the field of environmental science. This level of membership in professional bodies is widely seen as distinct from other categories, placing you in a higher tier of professionals. Our Fellows often work at high levels, making enormous contributions to the environment.

How much experience do I need?

Fellowship normally requires a further seven years experience beyond that required to become a Member.

When can I apply?

Application should be made subsequent to joining the Institution, unless you received an invitation to apply.

What are the benefits?

As a Fellow you will receive our journal four times a year and our monthly e-newsletter, with opportunities to publish your work. You will have exclusive access to the Members' area on our website, with news, jobs and events.

Can I put letters after my name?

Fellows can use the suffix FIEnvSc to demonstrate this achievement.

The IES can reach widely across the environmental sciences and across the academic, practitioner, policy-maker divides, helping to move environmental sciences forward and maximize the chances of achieving impact in tackling real-world issues.

Gary Kass, FIEnvSc
