A new IES CEO

The IES is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Donnan as the organisation’s first CEO in its 42 year history. Adam brings three key elements which were critical for the IES choice of Chief Executive; extensive knowledge of the professional environmental science sector, expert business acumen and a passion for environmental issues.

Adam is a vocal advocate for supporting science in environmental practice and policy and for the role of the professions in transitioning to a sustainable society. He reflects the organisation’s creative and pioneering approach to membership services and its vision of the role a professional body plays in modern society.

Adam has been working at a senior position at the IES for seven years and has led the IES’s dramatic modernisation process, resulting in increasing membership numbers and positioning the IES as the professional body for environmental scientists. His appointment as Chief Executive comes during a restructuring of the project team, which aims to deliver increased value for our members, improve their profile in the sector and ensure policy is underpinned by sound scientific evidence.

Chair of IES, Dr Heather Barrett-Mold said of Adam’s appointment, “On behalf of the IES Council I welcome Adam Donnan’s appointment to the position of Chief Executive. Adam is a great advocate for all of our members and has transformed the IES in his time here. He is very well respected in the sector and will be better placed in this new role to promote the interests of the Institution and ensure a great future for the sector."

The IES welcomes Adam in his new role and looks forward to working with him on the opportunities and challenges which lay ahead for this rapidly developing Institution and its members.
