Our approach to wave energy

Mocean Energy develops technology that generates renewable energy from ocean waves. This is a challenging space, which inventors and entrepreneurs have been exploring for decades without wide technical or commercial success. However, the industry is now at a turning point, and Mocean’s approach to developing wave energy reflects this.

Technically, Mocean have developed innovations that improve performance using software, geometry, and direct drive generators. Commercially, they are starting with relatively small, machines in high value markets, like oil and gas, and gradually scaling up through mid-sized machines in markets, like islands, towards a longer term vision of utility-scale wave power combined with offshore wind.

This webinar will explore Mocean's approach to wave power and the role it could play in future energy composition.

Our speaker

Cameron McNatt is an experienced innovator in ocean energy with a 15-year track record of business success and academic excellence. For the past 7 years as Managing Director, he and co-founder, Chris Retzler, have led Mocean Energy developing novel wave energy technologies with application in O&G and other offshore sectors. He has a Master of Ocean Engineering from Oregon State University and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh.  Prior to undertaking these post-graduate studies, Cameron worked as a naval architect writing software for ship simulations. He also has a BSc from Yale University, majoring in electrical engineering, and is a keen sailor who has crossed the Atlantic under sail.
