Independently, and in collaboration with five other organisations, the IES has responded to the Defra consultation on Biodiversity net gain: updating planning requirements
Our responses support the proposal to mandate Biodiversity Net Gain across future developments. Some of the concerns we raised were:
- to raise the lowest acceptable net gain from 10% to 20%;
- to use the metric alongside expert onsite assessments;
- ensuring that the proposals are part of a wider long-term sustainability agenda; and
- building resources in Local Authorities to deliver the agenda.
