Briefing: Levelling-Up & Regeneration Bill
In early 2022, the UK Government announced a new Parliamentary Bill, which would eventually become the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023.
The bill was designed to address the Government’s ‘levelling-up’ agenda and to reduce geographical, economic, social and health inequalities between different parts of the UK. From an environmental perspective, the bill was noteworthy for its role in kickstarting the process of EIA reform in practice, introducing the legislative basis for Environmental Outcomes Reports.
At this early stage in the reform process, the IES produced this briefing for members, encouraging awareness of the developments and their likely consequences for the environmental profession, and to identify opportunities to engage with decision makers and the public on emerging issues linked to environmental assessments.
