Green policy reversals: Letter from the Environmental Policy Forum

Cover of EPF Letter on Regression

In September 2023, the UK Government announced a series of u-turns on environmental policies, with significant implications for the UK's pathway towards net zero.

While the Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to reaching net zero, he also announced delays to several key policies, including changes to the commitment on banning new gas boilers and delays to the implementation of mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain.

The Environmental Policy Forum (EPF), a coalition of 17 professional bodies, wrote to the Prime Minister to urge a change of plans, in line with the existing Net Zero Strategy.

Since the letter, some of these u-turns have been reversed, while others remain in policy.
