Permitted Development Rights: written submission

In 2024, the Government published a consultation on changes to Permitted Development Rights. A focus for the proposals was on the future of air source heat pumps and the circumstances under which they would be approved as appropriate.

One significant issue was the balance between acoustic impacts and wider environmental outcomes, where the potential for trade-offs can exist. To ensure a more holistic picture was available, the IES submitted an interdisciplinary response to the consultation, with the support of the Sound, Noise, and Vibration Forum of our Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC).
