Independent Water Commission

In 2025, the Government's Independent Water Commission was created to investigate the state of the water sector in England and Wales. Early in the process, the Commission held a call for evidence to gather views.

The IES and the Foundation for Water Research (FWR) teamed up to produce this authoratative response, which tackles the need for systemic change.

The Commission responded positively, adopting our call for a systemic approach, though not all of the recommendations in the response were adopted.
