The Environment Bill: Letter from Environmental Protection UK
As the process of the UK's exit from the European Union was taking place in 2019, a large amount of work was also happening to create an environmental framework for the UK. In particular, the Environment Bill was a key part of the legislation working towards that goal, eventually becoming the Environment Act 2021.
As the Bill was being drafted, the Environmental Audit Committee and Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs Committee teamed up to host scrutiny into the legislation.
Environmental Protection UK (EPUK), the country's oldest environmental charity, wrote to the Committee to set out key asks for the Bill, drawn from the expertise of its Air Quality Committee. Since then, EPUK has dissolved and joined the IES family, becoming the Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC).
