National planning policy: Letter from the Environmental Policy Forum
Feeding into the consultation on proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), this letter was produced by the Environmental Policy Forum (EPF), a coalition of 16 professional bodies and learned societies promoting environmental sustainability and resilience for the public benefit.
The IES signed the letter in support of its strong stance on the need for a holistic approach to planning policy that recognises the need for interconnected solutions to environmental challenges.
In its letter, the EPF highlighted:
- The need for holistic solutions in the planning framework
- Risks around climate policy that could lead to unintended consequences
- The importance of evidence-informed policy for planning
- The role of skills and expertise in delivering planning outcomes
- Potential economic and social costs of the proposals
