PFAS litigation and laboratory analysis

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have emerged as one of the most significant environmental and public health challenges of recent decades, driving a rapid increase in regulatory scrutiny and litigation worldwide.
A key focus of the presentation will be the role of laboratory analysis in supporting PFAS investigations and legal proceedings. The webinar will examine current analytical methodologies, sampling considerations, data quality requirements and testing limitations. Our speaker, Geraint Williams, will also provide details of recent industry-led efforts to improve standardisation and consistency in PFAS analysis, interpretation and reporting.
Through practical examples, Geraint will provide insights into the intersection of environmental science and law, demonstrating how high-quality laboratory analysis can support informed decision-making, strengthen technical evidence and facilitate the effective resolution of PFAS-related disputes.
Our speaker
Geraint Williams is a Chartered Scientist and Associate Technical Director at HKA, delivering expert witness, dispute resolution and litigation support. He is Chair-elect of the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) and leads the Business Practice Working Group. Geraint was co-author of C819, CIRIA's good practice guidance on PFAS in soil and the water environment. He currently serves on EH/4 British Standards Technical Committee on Soil Quality. He is a member of the National Brownfield Forum and previously served two terms on the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessment (SoBRA's) executive committee.
