Action on noise pollution

EPIC organises Noise Action Week, the national campaign to raise awareness of noise pollution and drive practical action to reduce its impact. The campaign highlights the often-overlooked effects of noise on our health and wellbeing, and brings together professionals, organisations, communities and individuals to share evidence, good practice and solutions.

Noise Action Week has a long history. It was first established in 1996 by Environmental Protection UK, which ran the campaign until 2021. In 2024, Environmental Protection UK merged with the Institution of Environmental Sciences to become part of EPIC. Environmental Protection Scotland, which also ran Noise Action Week in Scotland, subsequently joined EPIC in 2025.

EPIC re-launched Noise Action Week in 2026, putting the health and wellbeing impacts of noise at the heart of the campaign and focusing on entertainment and neighbour noise. The campaign will continue as a platform for raising awareness, sharing practical solutions and exploring new and emerging noise issues across the UK.
