Toolkit for collaborative working across disciplines and sectors
The IES and Advancing Capacity for Climate and Environmental Social Sciences (ACCESS) are pleased to launch this new practical Toolkit for collaborative working across disciplines and sectors to help environmental researchers, policymakers, and practitioners collaborate more effectively.
Bringing together expertise spanning the natural and social sciences, the toolkit provides a practical and flexible framework for collaboration, along with supporting resources. It has been co-produced and led by a core team of environmental scientists working in social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. It has received input from over 40 environmental researchers and practitioners through a series of co-production workshops.
The publication of this toolkit represents a shared goal of ACCESS and the IES to support greater integration of environmental social sciences with other environmental science disciplines.
The toolkit contains:
- An introduction to using the toolkit
- An overview of the underpinning BRIDGES framework, with guidance on how to apply it
- Extensive appendices providing supporting resources and further information
- One-page poster outlining the toolkit
- Slide deck to support toolkit use among a project team
Who is the toolkit for?
Anyone wishing to explore, explain, and champion the value of collaborative working across disciplines, sectors, seniorities, and specialisms in environmental science.
Why use the toolkit?
Environmental, social and economic systems are closely interlinked, making collaborative working vital to tackling the complex environmental challenges that we face. This co-produced toolkit provides a practical, structured approach to undertaking collaborative projects.
What is collaborative working?
A way of working that integrates information from different disciplines, sectors, fields and stakeholders to address problems and find solutions that go beyond the scope of a single perspective.
