Workstream: Noise Action Week 2027

Community Latest Acoustics

The Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC) has launched a new working group to help shape and deliver Noise Action Week 2027.

The working group will build on the successful relaunch of Noise Action Week by EPIC in May 2026. The campaign brought together local authority officers, acousticians and organisations from across the sector to raise awareness of the importance of noise for health and wellbeing. It generated more than 100 LinkedIn posts, reached thousands of people through the campaign website and events, and was supported by leading organisations across the noise sector.

We are now looking for EPIC members to join the working group and help shape the next campaign.

Why this matters

Noise is the second largest environmental threat to public health, yet it often receives less attention than other environmental issues. Noise Action Week provides an opportunity to change that, bringing together professionals, organisations and communities to highlight why noise matters and promote practical action to prevent and manage noise problems.

The 2027 campaign will build on the momentum of the 2026 relaunch, while exploring new issues and opportunities to engage people across the environmental and public health sectors.

What is involved

The working group will play a key role in shaping the direction and content of Noise Action Week 2027, including:

  • Shaping campaign themes and messages, identifying the noise issues that should be given greater attention in 2027
  • Developing campaign activities and resources, including events, communications and practical materials
  • Building partnerships, helping to engage relevant professional bodies, local authorities and other supporters in the campaign
  • Supporting campaign communications, including contributing ideas and content for social media, newsletters and the Noise Action Week webpage

Being a member of the working group is a great opportunity to help shape a national campaign while contributing your own expertise, experience and ideas.

The working group will typically have one-hour fortnightly meetings (held on Teams). Members will not be expected to attend every meeting, but should aim to attend at least 50% of meetings. Work will be conducted between meetings on a private Teams channel. The working group will disband following Noise Action Week 2027 (May/June 2027).

How to get involved

The working group is open to EPIC members. We are particularly keen to hear from members working in local authorities across different areas of noise, environmental health, public health, planning and related disciplines.

If you would like to apply to join the working group, please send over a short expression of interest (max 300 words) to the EPIC Coordinator Ellie Savage (ellie@the-ies.org). This should outline why you want to join the group, as well as your relevant skills and experience.

The deadline is close of play Friday 23rd October.

Not an EPIC member?

We will also consider applications from non-EPIC members where they would bring exceptional expertise or experience to the group. If you would like to apply as an external expert, please make this clear in your expression of interest.

All IES members and local authority environmental professionals can join EPIC for free by emailing EPIC Coordinator Ellie Savage (ellie@the-ies.org). See the FAQs on the EPIC homepage for more details.
