Revisions to ETSU-R-97 wind turbine noise guidance

The Government was due to make revisions to the ETSU-R-97 Guidance on wind turbine noise in 2024.

The Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC)'s Sound, Noise and Vibration teamed up with CIEH to write this letter to the Secretary of State, hoping to ensure those revisions were delivered as planned, and that they represented a scientific approach to balancing the need for renewable energy infrastructure with the effects on local communities.

As a result of the letter, the revisions to the Guidance were made as planned, leading to a consultation in 2025. EPIC also responded to that consultation, emphasising the importance of sound science. The final outcome of the revisions has not yet been determined.
