Ensuring Local Nature Recovery Strategies drive delivery
Our Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC) takes an evidence-based approach to helping local authorities deliver ambitious and effective environmental policy.
Local Nature Recovery Strategies are one of the UK's flagship policies to reverse these trends and ensure that local areas in England are protecting and creating appropriate natural habitats. They need to succeed, so evidence of what works in practice is vital.
That's why EPIC held a workshop in 2024, bringing together experts to find out how Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) can drive forward fair, sensible solutions for nature. This briefing sets out five key outcomes from that workshop, with clear and actionable guidance for local authorities:
- LNRS have huge potential to drive the delivery of our nature goals, but are at risk of ‘gathering dust on a shelf
- LNRS need to have a strong voice in planning decisions
- Key guidance is missing
- Local stakeholders need to use and buy into LNRS
- Planning for the long-term
