Pollution hotspots within vessels - Identifying and managing onboard risks

Although shipping regulations and cleaner technologies have reduced external discharges, there are still many pollution sources that originate internally within the vessel. These include engine rooms, fuel tanks, bilge and ballast systems, sewage treatment plants, waste and cargo-handling areas, which can all act as “hotspots” where leaks, spills, or poor management practices can lead to significant contamination. These internal hotspots not only pose risks to the marine environment when chemicals, wastewater and wastes are discharged, but also impact vessel efficiency, safety, and compliance.

This webinar explores where these pollution hotspots are typically found (including associated documentation), why they matter, and how to manage them. Further insights into regulatory expectations, good practices, and innovative technologies that help operators minimise onboard pollution risks and strengthen vessel environmental performance are also discussed.
