Public health and the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate
In October 2026, pressure began to mount for the Government to revise or weaken the mandate for Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEVs), with potential consequences for climate change and air quality.
Recognising that the ZEV mandate is one of the most significant current policies we have to reduce air pollution, the Healthy Air Coalition wrote an open letter to the Transport Secretary, urging the Government to hold its ground on Zero Emission Vehicles.
As the IES support ambitious action to produce healthier air, as well as the links between climate and air quality policy, our Head of Policy signed the letter in support.
