ESG Specialist, Mutapa Gold Resources

Tatenda is a sustainability specialist working at the intersection of mining, climate risk and responsible investment. As an ESG Specialist at Mutapa Gold Resources (MGR), he manages ESG performance and reporting across gold, platinum and lithium operations, turning site-level ESG data into decision-ready insight for executive leadership.
With ten years of global experience in climate and sustainability reporting, Tatenda works across IFC Performance Standards, World Bank ESS, GRI and ISO management systems, alongside Zimbabwe’s environmental and mining legislation. His background includes mine closure planning and related mining projects in South Africa and Zimbabwe, utility-scale renewable energy development in Southern Africa and USAID-financed climate programmes across the globe.  

He holds a BSc Honours in Applied Environmental Science and is completing an MSc in Climate Change and Sustainable Development. His dissertation research investigates climate investment and the resilience of state-owned mining operations. He is a member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences (UK) and the International Association for Impact Assessment.

Following the advice of a mentor who was a Chartered Environmentalist, Tatenda joined the IES after realising the importance of professional development, networking and being guided by a code of conduct.
