Join us in the lead-up to Clean Air Night for this joint EPIC & IAQM webinar, exploring new research into why people burn solid fuels in their homes, and what this means for efforts to improve air quality.
Professor Chantelle Wood will present findings from a research project investigating solid fuel burning in homes in Bradford, undertaken in collaboration with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council and funded by UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) and Defra.
The research explores the factors that influence household solid fuel burning, providing valuable insight into the behaviours, attitudes and circumstances that shape this source of air pollution. The findings offer important lessons for environmental professionals and others working to reduce exposure to air pollution and support cleaner choices in the home.

Our speaker
Chantelle Wood is a Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Sheffield. Her research focuses on understanding why people do (or don't) engage in different behaviours, and how we can use that knowledge to develop effective strategies for changing people's behaviour. Over the last 5 years, Chantelle's research has primarily focused on behaviours that impact on indoor air pollution and air quality, including solid fuel burning in homes.

The Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC) is a member-led, specialist interest group at the IES. The community works together to understand delivery challenges, support pracitioners and advocate for implementation-minded policy. Our members are local authority officers and others delivering action on air quality, climate change, nature recovery, contaminated land and noise pollution on the ground.
