Land Condition Community welcomes two new Steering Group members

Community Latest Land Condition

We are delighted to welcome two new members to our Land Condition Community Steering Group! This follows submissions of expressions of interest from the wider Community. The Land Condition Community connects members to share expertise, shape resources, and drive standards across the sector. The Community leads the annual Land Condition Symposium, runs webinars and discussions, develops professional guidance, and contributes to policy and consultation responses.

Meet the new steering group members

Emily Cooke, MIEnvSc, CSci
I am a Geo-Environmental Consultant at AtkinsRéalis, with eight years’ experience across remediation contracting, consultancy, and client secondments. I recently gained Chartered Scientist (CSci) status with the IES. I have worked on a range of projects across challenging brownfield sites, including pesticide factories, gasworks, sewage treatment works, and petrol stations, as well as larger infrastructure schemes, supporting clients to understand ground conditions and land contamination. Through my work in consultancy, I draw on my experience from my time in contracting and I have a particular interest in materials management and soil re-use. I am keen to contribute to the Land Condition Community Steering Group by sharing experiences, supporting good practice, and helping shape discussions around current challenges in the sector. I look forward to meeting others across the Community.

Richard Moakes, MIEnvSc, CEnv
I am a Senior Managing Consultant at Ramboll, Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and CL:AIRE Qualified Person (QP), with more than 18 years' experience advising on contaminated land, environmental permitting, materials reuse, and brownfield regeneration projects. Alongside project delivery, I am passionate about advancing professional practice and improving the practical application of land condition policy. I actively contribute to industry working groups, publications, webinars, and conferences, and am an Executive Committee member of the Society for the Environment (SocEnv) Soils and Stones Working Group, helping to promote best practice and support the development of more consistent approaches to soils and stones across the UK.

They join existing steering group members Andrew Doerr (Chair), Conor Armstrong, Jonathan Atkinson, Dicken MacLean, Dan Maher, Anita Metelko, Elaine White, and Dominic Young. Thank you to Robin Lancefield who has finished his term!
