Institute of Air Quality Management Early Careers Network

Develop your knowledge and skills in a supportive and accessible environment

Supporting the next generation of air quality professionals

The Institute of Air Quality Management's Early Careers Network (IAQM ECN) is a network for air quality professionals in the early stages of their careers. It exists to develop members’ knowledge and skills in a supportive and accessible environment.
It is housed within IAQM, giving early career professionals opportunities to learn from and collaborate with experienced professionals.

Can I join the Early Career Network?

To join the IAQM ECN, you must be a member of the IAQM and be in the first ten years of your air quality career. Eligibility is not age-based and is open to those who have moved into the sector later in their career.

IAQM Members can join through the Manage my Communities section in the Members' Portal.  If you are not yet a member, consider joining the IES and IAQM today to access the Network and other benefits.

Celebrating IAQM ECN members

The IAQM ECN hosts two awards within the wider IAQM award programme: the Ian McCrae Award and the Helen ApSimon Award

The Ian McCrae Award

This award recognises outstanding early career knowledge around a set topic in air quality. Applicants must submit an essay in response to a question set by the IAQM Early Careers’ Network (ECN) Subcommittee.

The Helen ApSimon Award

Recognises an outstanding contribution to the IAQM by an early career professional. Applications are open to ECN members who attended a live IAQM event and made a contribution (such as a presentation or article) to the IAQM in the previous 12 months.

Steering Group

The IAQM ECN is led by a Subcommittee of early career professionals who are responsible for shaping the development of the ECN. They are supported by the IAQM Committee and provide feedback to ensure early career voices are represented in IAQM decision making.
