Executive Summary: Our Shared Mission

Cover of Our Shared Mission

Sustainability is not an abstract ideal of environmentalism: it means what it says. If we want to continue to succeed in the future, we need to ensure that the success we pursue can be sustained for future generations.

The duty of governments to public service applies not only to the loudest voices, but to all people, including future generations who cannot speak for the changes they would demand.

We must provide them with a future where they can make their own choices, and where they have at least as many opportunities as we have today.

As part of our recommendations to the UK Government for 2024-2029, the IES published this executive summary, which sets out our headline recommendations and background on the report.
