Data Management for Field and Office

Data management isn’t always the most exciting of topics. However, it is vital for enabling you to make fast and accurate decisions within your technical specialism, and for ensuring that you can communicate your data honestly and freely with other specialists.

In this talk, we will take a brief look at the principles of data management, how data gets stored in the digital age, and how to apply those principles to the often messy world of site work.

We will then look at what good data management allows us to do, enabling us to make fresh insights into otherwise opaque data to produce high-quality, innovative outcomes for the projects we work on and the stakeholders we work with.

This webinar has been organised by the Land Condition Early Careers Network (ECN), and will be suitable for land condition professionals in the earlier stages of their careers, as well as those wishing to brush up on their data skills. It will also be of interest to students or graduates wishing to pursue a career in the specialism.

Our speaker

Ben Le Grice is a Senior Geoenvironmental Consultant at Arcadis and has 14 years of experience in the environmental sector. In this time, he has gained experience across all stages of the environmental project lifecycle, including initial site characterisation, intrusive investigation, CSM, remediation, validation and sign-off.

Ben leads development of digital geological data collection tools for the Arcadis UK FieldNow^TM digital development team, including furthering the connection between site-based logging tools, technical and analytical databases, and advanced visualisation software. He also provides data management support to project teams to ensure creation of robust digital models to support site characterisation.

Land Condition Early Careers Network

The Land Condition ECN is a network of land condition professionals in the early stages of their careers. It exists to develop members’ knowledge and skills in a supportive and accessible environment. The ECN is housed within the wider Land Condition Community, giving early career professionals opportunities to learn from and collaborate with experienced professionals. 

IES members in the first ten years of their land condition career are eligible to join the ECN. Eligibility is not age-based and is open to those who have moved into the sector later in their career. IES members can join through the ‘Manage my Communities’ section in the Members' Portal.
