Dave Stone

Dave has worked in the conservation sector for almost three decades at the interface of science, policy and delivery.  He is currently Deputy Chief Scientist and Natural England where he champions the scientific capabilities of Natural England's staff, spanning natural, economic and social sciences. Dave has a passion for making the best use of the best available evidence to inform policy and delivery.  He has been writing and lecturing on this topic for nearly 20 years and continues to champion systematic approaches to gathering and synthesising multi-disciplinary evidence working with the likes of Conservation Evidence and the Centre for Evidence Based Conservation.

He also has a deep interest in the natural environment and its influence on human health and well-being, and is a serving member of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) expert advisory group and former non-executive board member of the Health and Environment Alliance.  He was appointed to Council in 2019.
