Adam Donnan

Chief Executive Officer

Adam has worked for the IES is various roles since 2006. In 2013 he was made the organisation's first CEO. Adam is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Chartered Environmentalist.  Between July 2014 and March 2015, he was the Interim CEO of the Society for the Environment, an umbrella body for registration, bringing together 24 professional institutes.  He is currently a trustee of the Science Council.  Previously, he has held board positions as Vice President of the European Network of Environmental Professionals (ENEP) and was a non-Executive Director of Change Agents UK (2011-16). He was the 2014 Young Leader of the Year at the Association Awards UK. He holds an MBA and a BA in History, and has a passion for long distance running.

Rhianna Jarvis

Events & Training Lead

Rhianna is responsible for running all IES Events and Training workshops as well as engaging university students with the student membership programme. She has a BSc in Nutrition from Sheffield Hallam University and is passionate about sustainability and marine management.

Dan Ward

Programme Lead

Dan joined the team in April 2020 taking on responsibility for the Operational and Business Development side of the IES. Dan has previously worked in a variety of roles including international conservation project management, community engagement and innovation fundraising. He has an MRes in Primate Behaviour, Biology and Conservation from the University of Roehampton, and a BSc in Zoology from the University of Southampton. He is particularly interested in animal behaviour and tropical rainforest ecology.

Rhiannon Humphreys

Education & Professional Development Officer

Rhiannon is responsible for education, standards, and CPD. She joined the IES team in February 2019. She studied International Relations at the University of Leeds with a keen interest in environmental theories and feminist environmentalism.

Danielle Kopecky

Publications Officer

Danielle joined the organisation in April 2020 and is Editor of the IES' quarterly journal the Environmental SCIENTIST. She has an MSc in Conservation from University College London and is passionate about biodiversity management and conservation, in particular primate behaviour and management.

Joseph Lewis

Policy Officer

Joseph joined the IES in 2020 and is responsible for delivering policy for the IES and working to promote the use of the environmental sciences in decision making. He has a law degree from Durham University and an MSc in Public Policy from the University of Bristol, where he specialised in environmental policy. He is especially passionate about biodiversity and has a keen interest in the ways society interacts with environmental science.

Ethny Childs

Engagement and Communities Officer

Ethny is responsible for supporting the IES Communities and building relationships with partners and stakeholders in the sector. Ethny has a BSc. in Biological Sciences with Management from Imperial College London and has a keen interest in wildlife and environmental conservation.

Lisa Abbott

Office Administrator

Lisa joined the IES in June 2016 to help with administrative support for our membership, events and publications. Her previous roles include Internal Account/Administration Manager for a software development company and Editorial Assistant for a medical publishing company.


Kate Saker

Graphic Designer (contractor)

Kate is an accomplished designer with over 15 years experience in print, digital, social media, packaging and exhibition design. She has a wealth of client experience encompassing the arts, professional services and large international brands such as Cunard, Royal Mail, World Gold Council, Procter and Gamble and Unilever. Kate started her career in one of London's top design agencies and now runs her own boutique design agency. She has a BA in Design and Media. In her spare time she loves to travel and discover new places and people to meet.


Wellbeing Officer

Fry joined the IES team in 2017 to boost morale and offer support through particularly difficult periods. He is the first to answer the door every day and puts in the extra hours, often staying with members of staff out of office hours and at the weekends. Fry loves nothing more than long walks and belly scratches.
