Dr Iain Hossack

Iain is a sustainability practitioner with expertise in all areas of environmental stewardship, economic development, social responsibility and associated impact assessments. He is currently providing business support - focussing on energy management; and auditing of environmental practice - within various sectors including food and drink; festivals (UK and international); and construction. He has a PhD in sustainability decision-support focussing on urban soil and contaminated land and a first class honours degree in Environmental Science and Technology. For eight years he worked corporately in a local authority providing policy input and support and delivering a variety of diverse and forward-thinking sustainability assessments and consultations. He chaired sustainability matters in the local council for 18 months, was chair of a Scottish-Government Strategic Environmental Assessment working group and led on the quality improvement of biological records, with support from the National Biodiversity Network. Iain is a keen sailor with over 1000+ nm recorded. In a previous career he was a nightclub/ band promoter, music journalist and a "new music" DJ for a national Scottish radio station. Iain believes passionately in the Institute's promotion of scientific principles as the foundation to a sustainable future. As a Council member Iain will champion members' interests; that they continue to be heard effectively and their contributions recognised. 

Iain was elected to the IES Council in 2016.
