The Institution of Environmental Sciences and Change Agents UK are proud to present an Environmental Employability Day designed specifically to help you improve your prospects in the environmental jobs market.

The Environmental Employability Day will teach you how to stand out when applying for internships, placements and graduate jobs! 

 
Standing between a trained environmental scientist and the environmental job of their dreams will be the job applications and the interview process. 
 
The Institution of Environmental Sciences and Change Agents UK have joined forces to bring you an Environmental Employability Day  designed to help graduates to hit the ground running when entering this highly competitive sector.
 
 
Attend to boost your environmental career prospects by learning how to:

  • Use your environmental knowledge to impress in interviews  
  • Find out exactly what employers are looking for
 

Attendees must choose two of the following workshops they would like to attend on this day

 

Workshop 1  -  CVs and Applications

 
 
 
 
Discover everything you will need to craft a winning CV and application. Learn how to tailor your applications for different roles and the distinctions between the industry sectors.
 
Dos and Dont's - what information to put in and what to keep out. This session defines what recruiters are really looking for when scanning your application.
 
 
 
 
Megan Sturton, Recruitment and Development Coordinator, Change Agents UK
 
Megan’s experience includes traveling the globe to recruit International Students to attend a specialist sport, equine and agricultural university, running her own successful business for a number of years and now recruiting graduates and young people to work within ethical and responsible businesses.
She believes in giving graduates and young people the chance to forge a career in the areas that they are most passionate about and then giving them the tools and resources to flourish.
Megan will be running the 'CV and Applications' workshop, giving you the opportunity to understand what recruiters are looking for in an application, creating a lasting impression to maximising your chance of success!

Workshop 2 -  Interview Success

This session has been carefully designed by our career specialists to prepare you for all types of interviews.
 
Learn about:
  • What questions you can expect, and the best way to answer them
  • The different styles of interviews and how to best approach them
  • Tips on preparing evidence-based answers to questions 
  • Suitable questions to put to interviewers
  • How and when to 'follow-up' on your interviews
 
 
Marissa Watts, CEO, Change Agents UK 
 
Marissa has a number of years’ experience in recruiting and developing young people and graduates. She also runs a Career Consultancy, helping people with the application process, interview technique and assessment centre preparation.
She believes in recruiting the right people, at the right time, into the right roles; and then managing and developing them to maximise their impact.
 
Marissa will be running the ‘Interview Success’ workshop, giving an insider’s view on how to do yourself justice and make the most of your interviews – and what to avoid!

Workshop 3  -  What Employers Want

 
This session puts you directly in front some of the largest environmental employers in the UK offering a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from the source about what employers want and what they don't want.
 
Gain invaluable industry insight from potential future employers.
 
Hear first hand from graduate environmental scientists who will reveal their experiences and thoughts on what it is like to start a career within the sector.
 
Come prepared with some questions and ready to take notes.
 
 
One of our contributors for the 'What Employers Want' workshop will be Arup Environmental Consulting. These speakers shall be giving you the scoop on what it is like to work at a consultancy and what you can expect at each stage of your career:

Workshop 4 - Sustainability Explained

 
This workshop will get you to grips with sustainable development principles and ensure that you can succinctly articulate them to employers.
 
By the end of the session, you will be able to show that you can be an agent of change to help your employer become more sustainable.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
John Baines MBE, Senior Vice President, Institution of Environmental Sciences
 
John is currently self- employed, working as a consultant in Education for Sustainability. He was Director of the Council for Environmental Education (1978-1988) and has been Chair of the PP4SD or on the project management team for 11 years.
 
His professional interests embrace facilitation of sustainability strategy development and Eco-Schools and his research interests encompass professional practice and sustainability, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and sustainability, and of course Greening General Aviation, quite ethically to lower the carbon ‘sky’ print of his hobby.
 
He is involved in a number of projects, such as Carbon Footprint Gloucestershire Airport, Professional Practice for Sustainable Development, and Eco-Schools.
 
He has achieved an MBE for the services to Environmental Education. Among the 40 odd books and education packs he has published, the most notable is the book Food and Farming.
 
John will be running the 'Sustainability Explained' Workshop.
