The webinar will discuss findings from a Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment study evaluating the effects of the LEZ on Key Stage 2 test scores among elementary school students in England between 2005 and 2015.
Using a difference-in-differences approach, the study assesses the LEZ’s effect on standardised Key Stage 2 results (age 11). The study found that there was a statistically and economically significant improvement of 0.09 standard deviations in test scores for students within the LEZ compared to those in other urban areas. The analysis also reveals that the policy had a more pronounced positive effect in low-performing schools, demonstrating the LEZ's potential to mitigate educational disparities. This seminar will provide valuable insights into the broader societal benefits of air quality policies.
