Is 'Green Business' A Contradiction in Terms?

Thursday, 22 March 2018 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Barnard's Inn Hall, Holborn, London, EC1N 2HH

Free public lectures by Professor Carolyn Roberts, Frank Jackson Professor of the Environment and IES Vice President

Posters in shops and on trucks shout ‘carbon neutral business’, and progressively more organisations are boasting of reducing their environmental impact by using environmentally-friendly, responsibly sourced materials. And yet we also have diesel car emission frauds, the hoax of ‘degradable’ plastic, and a fashion industry that claims to be sustainable whilst suggesting that we buy new clothes each season. There are green marketing scams, and dubious data being deployed to benefit shareholders. Are global businesses now leading politicians in moving towards more sustainable practice or is this an example of ‘post-truth’ society?

No reservations are required for this lecture. It will be run on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Doors will open 30 minutes before the start of the lecture.
