IES Webinar: Keeping Global Environmental Assessments fit for purpose

Tuesday, 24 November 2020 - 12:30pm to 1:15pm
Online

Global environmental assessments play an important role in environmental governance. They synthesize advancing scientific knowledge to provide insight in causes and consequences of environmental change, as well as possible solutions. To retain their value for environmental governance in the future, regular maintenance to these assessments is required in response to changing dynamics in science, policy and society.

This webinar will present the results from a recently published report by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, which analyses the role of these assessments and offers several options through which to keep assessments fit for purpose.

Timo Maas joined PBL as a researcher in 2019. At PBL, his research focuses on the intersection between the environment and international development. In a study closely related to the topic of this webinar, he synthesized the key findings from five recent global environmental assessments, drawing lessons for Dutch sustainable development policies. In addition to his work at PBL, Timo is currently pursuing a PhD at Wageningen University and Research on the functioning of science-policy-society interactions. He holds an MSc in Environmental Governance from the University of Oxford.
