IES Webinar: Primate Change - How the world we made is remaking us

Tuesday, 10 September 2019 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm
Online

In the last two hundred years, humans have made such a tremendous impact on the world that our geological epoch is about to be declared the 'Anthropocene', or the Age of Man. But while we have been busy changing the shape of the world, the ways of living that we have been fashioning have, as if under the cover of darkness, been changing our bodies.

During this webinar Vybarr will give an overview of the kinds of changes that we can see all over our bodies, changes caused by our environment to our height, our faces or our feet. The anthropocene body is a work of art 10,000 years in the making.

About the Speaker

Prof. Vybarr Cregan-Reid is an author, academic and broadcaster who has written widely on the subjects of literature, health, nature and the environment. His most recent book, Primate Change: How the World We Made is Remaking Us, asks how modern life is changing our bodies. It looks at everything from our indoor behaviours, our height, the size of our feet, the shape of our faces, to things like allergies and shortsightedness, all of which are strongly driven by our environment.
