Midlands Regional Event: Waste Management

Tuesday, 9 September 2014 - 1:30pm to 4:00pm
Golder Associates Offices, Nottingham, NG12

The Midlands IES Regional Group presents a seminar on waste and environmental management in the upstream oil and gas sector.

Registration and refreshments will be available from 13:30, with presentations commencing at 14:00. There will be a Q&A session at the end and the event which will end at 16:00.

Steve Filkin. Director at Filkin & Co. EHS Limited. will lead the seminar on this day. The seminar will include a keynote presentation reviewing the environmental management challenges presented by the principal operations undertaken in the upstream sector.

The initial exploration and production infrastructure installation contrasts with the later steady-state operations.  These initial activities generate a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams with associated environmental issues.  Where these activities are undertaken overseas and in areas with limited waste management capacity the operators have a broad range of challenges to meet both stakeholder expectations and international standards.  In addition, these activities are often undertaken offshore and in sensitive marine environments.

The industry has developed highly complex engineering solutions to the development of oil and gas fields and also to the problems associated with the wastes that are generated.Experiences of capacity building initiatives and the development of the waste management techniques to manage the recovery and disposal of the wastes will also be described.
