CEnv is changing

From the 1st November 2012 the IES will be introducing a new application process and revised competencies for Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv). These are the first major changes to the CEnv designation since it was introduced in 2004.

The changes are to ensure that CEnv remains relevant and fit for purpose. The wording of the new competencies will clearly position the designation at Level 7 (Masters Level) within the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The updated competencies are intended to provide greater clarity over what each competency is seeking to test and to remove unnecessary duplication. It also seeks to strengthen the environmental skills within the competencies.

Details about the changes
The most significant changes within the competencies are that the existing A and B competences have been combined into a single grouping focused on the application of knowledge. The existing A3, “Explain the critical importance of maintaining and enhancing natural cycles and biodiversity in achieving sustainability”, has been removed in the interests of commonality across all the professional bodies awarding Chartered Environmentalist.

Section 1 of the career report will be dropped in favour of an annotated long-CV to avoid repetition. Finally, there will be a greater emphasis on candidates holding a Masters degree or documenting that they have an equivalent level of knowledge.

Implications
These changes will not affect those who already hold the CEnv designation.

For those who have started writing their report under the current system you will need to submit before 31st October 2012, as this will be the final date that we will be accepting the old format. We strongly recommend that you sign up to the remaining CEnv in a Day Workshop on 10th October 2012.

The new application forms for those wishing to submit their reports after 1st November are available on the CEnv web page.
