Could you be an IES mentor?

The IES professional mentoring scheme has continued to grow each year as more and more of our members decide they would like to pass on some of their specialised knowledge to a new generation of environmental scientists.

To be a great Mentor does not require you to be at the very top of your profession.  Any environmental professional who has reached this grade has sufficient work experience to provide valuable advice and support to someone seeking work in their field.

Why Volunteer?

Mentoring can enable you to:

  • Develop your coaching and leadership skills, contributing to the success of others whilst adding to your annual CPD targets
  • Connect with the challenges of a younger generation and understand some emerging trends in your profession
  • Pass on the wisdom, guidance and experience you have gained throughout your professional career
  • Invest in the future of the environmental sciences.
  • Share your experiences of the industry and inspire the next generation of environmental scientists
  • Gain insight into current issues in the employment market and potential recruitment opportunities

We need volunteers who can give their time to help develop the skills of aspiring environmental scientists whilst they prepare to seek work. Mentees are typically IES members who have recently graduated and are currently seeking work in the environmental sector.

This scheme is very much Mentee driven, with the onus put on them to make contact and take action as a result of your generous offer to contribute time to them.

If you would be interested in becoming a mentor please contact Ruth Bowyer.
