IES Vice President wins IOM3's Thornton Medal

This year's prestigious Thornton Award, presented to the author of the best paper at an Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) conference over the year, was presented to IES Vice President, Dr Mark Everard.

IOM3 is a membership organisation whose activities encompass the entire lifecycle of materials, from exploration and extraction to recycling and remediation of land. Every year IOM3 presents a number of awards, medals and prizes to recognise personal achievement in published work and contributions to the profession throughout the year.

Previous winners of the medal include Jonathan Porritt CBE, Honorary Fellow of the IES; Dr Rachel Waugh, co-author of the highly acclaimed Sustainable Materials with both eyes open; and Dr Gerard C J Lynch, internationally respected historic brickwork consultant.
