Committees take a leading role in their Community, working collaboratively with IES staff to oversee the yearly activities of the Community and engage with the wider IES ecosystem to drive forward strategic objectives.

At the FWR, the work of the Committee is also informed by three Technical Panels: Water Environment & Ecosystem Services; Water Resources & Quality; and Sustainable Wastewater Management. The Technical Panels provide expert insights on their focus area and deliver an ambitious work plan of activities aligned with FWR goals. Given the broad nature of the water sector, these three Technical Panels not only focus on issues that fall in their remit but also explore the crossovers between the panels and with other specialisms and disciplines. In recognition of the need for a joined-up approach to the issues facing the water sector, collaboration is a fundamental aspect of the work of the Technical Panels.

Both the Committee and Technical Panels seek engagement with external organisations where appropriate.

The members of both the Committee and Technical Panels are a diverse range of water professionals who provide rich perspectives from across consultancy, industry, public bodies, academia and NGOs to feed into discussions and outputs. 

Expressions of interest are open to professionals working in the water sector or related specialisms.

The Committee meets four times per year (once per quarter). Meetings are typically 2 hours long and are held virtually. In-person meetings may be organised from time to time depending on member interest. 

At Committee meetings and via email, the work you will be involved with includes:

• Supporting the delivery of the Community's annual workplan
• Helping shape Community activities 
• Being an ambassador for the Community and sharing Community outputs
• Engaging with IES staff and partners on areas related to Community activities
• Providing feedback for relevant publications, events and policy outputs, as appropriate

Terms on the Committee last two years, and ordinary members can have two concurrent terms. If in the Chair position, terms of office are three years, with two potential concurrent terms.

At Technical Panel meetings and via email, the work you will be involved with includes:

• Supporting the delivery of the Community's annual workplan related to the panel's area of interest
• Developing ideas and plans for related events and publications
• Being an ambassador for the Community and sharing Community outputs
• Engaging with IES staff and partners on areas related to Panel activities, including development of policy
• Providing feedback for relevant publications, events and policy outputs, as appropriate

General membership on the panel will not be time limited.
