IES approved to offer ESOS register

We are delighted to announce we have received approval from the Environment Agency to offer a register of professionals able to act as ESOS Lead Energy Assessors. An application was submitted to offer the register following requests from our members who work within the energy sector and forms part of a wider review of the registers we offer.

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is the UK government's response to the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU). ESOS is a mandatory energy assessment scheme for organisations in the UK that meet the qualification criteria. Companies that qualify need to appoint a Lead Assessor from an approved professional body register to undertake an energy audit and ESOS assessment. The UK administrator of the scheme is the Environment Agency, and they have approved the IES to offer a register of suitably qualified Lead Assesors.

If you a Full Member or Fellow of the Institution with two years' professional experience of energy assessment and audit, you are eligible to apply to join the IES Lead Energy Assessor Register. Application involves completion of an ESOS Lead Assessor competency report to illustrate that you meet the required technical and non-technical competencies of the PAS 51215 standard.

Your application will be reviewed by a technical reviewer, and if you are successful in completing the screening you will be invited to attend a training course which will cover the ESOS requirements and include an assessment. We are still finalising the application and assessment details; please email us your interest and we will keep you updated regarding the application procedure.
