Shaping the Future of Environmental Protection: Environment Bill governance arrangements in Northern Ireland

The Environmental Policy Forum is hosting an event series to facilitate how the future governance arrangements set out in the Environment Bill can be implemented to best effect in Northern Ireland.

The series will commence with a webinar, allowing you to hear perspectives from the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, business groups and NGOs on the core governance elements in the Bill and plans on how best to take them forward. Join this session to hear from experts on:

• Environmental Improvement Plans – and what is needed to provide a coherent set of policies and proposals which give businesses and communities clarity on priorities so they can make a full contribution to significantly improving the natural environment.
• Policy Statement on Environmental Principles – and how best to implement in a way that contributes to
genuine improvements in environmental protection and sustainable development.
• Office for Environmental Protection – the role and function that the new “green watchdog” can play in monitoring progress, advising on changes in environmental law, and holding public authorities to
account in Northern Ireland.

Following this, we will host three separate workshops as an opportunity for discussion and debate on the
core governance elements. The series will be closed by a webinar session on 26th May where we will provide
feedback on the core issues raised in the workshops and share recommendations for taking forward the Environment Bill governance arrangements in Northern Ireland.
