IES Forum: Research & Funding in a COVID-19 world

Thursday, 17 September 2020 - 2:00pm to 3:30pm
Online

Our Forums invite professionals to join us in discussion over topical challenges and developments from across the environmental sector.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had, and will continue to have, a huge impact on the research landscape for environmental science and associated funding for environmental research. This forum will explore how PhD research projects have been impacted, including funding opportunities and the lasting impact this could have on many substantial and longstanding research projects.

What does a career in environmental research now look like?

Our speakers

  • Robyn Thomas, Associate Director for Discovery Science, Talent and Skills at NERC - The research and innovation landscape in a COVID-19 world – A funders perspective
  • Jessica Potts, PhD Student at Bangor University - PhD in a pandemic
  • Professor Chad Staddon, Associate Head of Department, Research & Scholarship at University of the West of England

Hear from students and academics working in environmental science research alongside a representative from a relevant funding body as they explore the implications of COVID-19 on current and future research.

You will have the opportunity to ask questions and network with other environmental scientists, helping to address the uncertainty currently surrounding research in the sector.

This event is free for professional IES members to attend, non-members are welcome to attend for a small fee of £25. A member of the IES team will contact you to organise payment.
