SocEnv Webinars: Waste Reduction Pt.2

Wednesday, 21 November 2018 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Online

Society for the Environment have launched a new webinar series which will explore the overarching topic of "Waste Reduction - Six Months on From a Plastic Themed World Environment Day".

Split into three webinars, the series will be based on the knowledge and expertise of six Chartered Environmentalists from different sectors and disciplines.

Plastics in the Aquatic and Marine Environment - Consequences and Solutions
The consequences of discarded/escaped plastics in the aquatic and marine environment are far more wide-ranging than many realise, and we are really only just starting to recognise many of the problems caused. Plastics are only one form of waste, but they provide a relevant example to focus on, with the same thinking applied to other waste streams. Plastics waste are the issue for which Caroline feels most passionately, given the issues it causes.

Caroline will discuss solutions such as the need to address a range of societal and economic issues to tackle the existing problem and avoid future problems; responsible citizenship regarding what to do with consumer waste; responsible manufacturing including cradle to grave thinking/zero waste solutions; and responsible waste handling.

Caroline Salthouse CEnv - Principal Consultant
Caroline is a self-employed environmental consultant specialising in coastal issues. She is on the Management Board of the North West Coastal Forum (NWCF) – a regional multi-sector coastal partnership working together across boundaries to deliver economic, environmental and social benefits for coastal communities in North West England. She formerly provided the paid secretariat for the NWCF for 14 years and continues to do so in a voluntary capacity.

She has extensive experience of working on a wide range of coastal policy and marine planning issues at local, national and international level and continues to represent the North West Coastal Forum’s interests on a range of external bodies such as the North West and North Wales Coastal Group (coastal defence) and the national Sustainability Appraisal Advisory Group (marine planning).
